Planning Your December Vacations? Experience the Essence of ‘Have a Pleasant Flight!’

Have you ever pondered on these words, “Have a pleasant flight“? Why haven’t we ever heard something like, “Have a pleasant sail” Or “Have a pleasant train“?

We have always heard, “Have a pleasant journey” or “Have a pleasant trip.”

So Why Does a Flight Have to Be Pleasant?

You have commuted to the airport way before the flight time, compromising your ever-precious sleep, carrying your muscle-aching baggage to the check-in counters. Fiddled through your passports, tickets, and boarding passes whenever an officer asked for them. You are waiting in every queue, only thinking about finishing the customs and finally having a seat with a hot cup of coffee in your hand and legs, crying for help! Now – after all that hauling, the time has to be killed!

You will be lucky if you’ve brought some good movies to watch or downloaded a few snappy videos. A few emails with a follow-up on the last meeting could do the work for a professional workaholic. If you like reading, you’re in the best position because any good reading material can pass the time. And finally, for people like me, nothing works but sleep. Now, sleeping on a chair is again a difficult task!

Ultimately, after having a seat on the plane (not forgetting to fasten the seat belts), the pilot in charge and the air hostess never fail to mention, “Have a pleasant flight.” Indeed, these people don’t know about your journey till catching this flight – sleepy red eyes, a heavy head and a stiff back on an upright seat with no leg space in front of you! Bro – they must be joking! What is pleasant about this flight?

Let’s look at the conditions that you are now in—suspended in mid-air above thirty thousand feet from the grounds. Is it safe to say that for those “few hours”, you are not in touch with the world? All communication to the outer world is lost except for the pilots. You don’t have your mobiles on, no access to emails, no news channels with their pint of different spices on every story they show or any social media accounts to gossip through.

It is you, the passengers and your fellow cabin crew at this point who, most of the time, are total strangers. The plane is flying peacefully at a speed of 880 km/h, which you are undoubtedly unaware of as you sit undisturbed in your seat. You have a few entertainment programmes on the TV, some magazines to go through and food served during meal time. You have everything to survive.

What if any of your family members passed away at this time? There is certainly no way to know until you land. What if the stock market crashes? What if your boyfriend broke up with you? The list can go on, but everything must wait until the landing.

Returning to our phrase, “Have a pleasant flight.” Imagine if you could spend a few hours in your day-to-day life secluded from everything. It’s just you, and nothing else matters. All of your problems can be dealt with later. I bet what you could achieve in those few hours is more countable than your entire day.

You could reflect, meditate, read, create an idea for your business (a pencil and a notebook are enough) or relax by watching something nice. Then land again on earth rejuvenated and deal with what awaits you. That would be a few hours spent pleasantly, won’t it?
